Celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, the United States Liberty Coins were produced. The silver dollar features the Statue as a beacon to immigrants, and Ellis Island as a gateway to America. These are the first ever coins issued by the United States Government depicting the Statue and Ellis Island.

The obverse (front) of the coin showcases a stunning portrayal of the Statue of Liberty's face, designed by John Mercanti. It includes the inscriptions "Liberty" and "In God We Trust," along with the date "1986" and the mint mark "P" for Philadelphia. On the reverse (back) of the coin is an eagle in flight, symbolizing the nation's commitment to freedom and liberty. Designed by Edgar Z. Steever IV, it also includes the inscriptions "United States of America," "E Pluribus Unum," and "One Dollar."
